The First Ladybird of the Year

A tiny visitor has arrived, dressed in red and black.
The first ladybird of the year—small, bright, and full of life.

Ladybirds are known as ladybugs in North America and ladybirds in the UK.
The name “lady” refers to the Virgin Mary.

A single ladybird can eat dozens of aphids in a day, making this tiny insect a gentle ally in the garden.

Ladybirds are among the most loved little insects.

A small moment, easily missed.

I did not know that “lady” was a reference to the Virgin Mary. Thanks for that info. They surely move fast. I saw one this past weekend, too.
