These photos were taken during one of my visits back to Stockholm in 2016, after moving from Sweden to Malta in 2000.
I haven’t been back to my former hometown in several years, and sadly most of the photographs from those visits have been lost over time. That makes these remaining images feel even more special today.

A colorful little corner of Södermalm beneath a deep blue September sky.
It is easy to forget that scenes like this can still be found in the middle of Stockholm.

The old “Drick Ramlösa” neon sign with an advertising slogan for the Swedish mineral water company Ramlösa, which means “Drink Ramlösa” — a classic Stockholm detail that I’m not even sure still exists today.

The alleyways of Stockholm’s Old Town are narrow and countless, lined with old buildings in warm and colorful shades.

Café Chokladkoppen (“The Chocolate Cup”) at Stortorget in Gamla Stan, Stockholm’s Old Town.
A typical September afternoon in Stockholm, with cafés still busy despite the early autumn chill.

The sculpture of Dutch troubadour Cornelis Vreeswijk in Cornelisparken on Södermalm.
I always liked his music and lyrics, so this felt like a fitting final image for Part 1 of my Stockholm archive.
More photographs from my former hometown will follow in Part 2.
