The Extraordinary in the Ordinary

For this week’s challenge, I stayed in my own garden, around our fish pond that leads the eye towards Paphos and the Mediterranean beyond. Here in the familiar surroundings I discovered details that I would normally walk right past.

This is the spot where I spent my time for the challenge.

These ornamental grasses grow in the pond, with the glass doors of our house in the background.
I walk past them almost every day without really noticing them.

The reflections on the pond’s surface transformed a familiar scene into something almost abstract.

I often photograph dragonflies around the pond, but now this unexpected visitor caught my attention instead.
At first I thought it was dead after finding it in the pond filter, but to my relief it soon started moving.

Anyone who has followed my blog for a while knows that I often have two four-legged companions with me on my photo walks. Sally was by my side the entire time as I walked around the fish pond with my camera. My dogs don’t appear in my blog very often, but when they do, it’s never quite like this. What you see here is a close‑up of one of Sally’s ears.

For Lens-Artists Challenge #399: Stuck in Place

Many thanks to Egídio for this inspiring challenge. What started as a search for the perfect location eventually led me back to my own garden. In the end, choosing where to stay turned out to be the hardest part. This was both a fun and rewarding challenge.

What an incredible view! Is that a bougainvillea shrub???

Thank you so much, Sue. We really love the view here, and yes, that’s a bougainvillea adding a splash of colour in the corner.

It’s gorgeous. They don’t survive CO winters, as a shrub.

I love bougainvilleas, and I’m so grateful to have several different ones in our garden here in Cyprus. Where I come from, Sweden, these thorny but beautiful shrubs don’t thrive at all.

Thanks you so much Brian. I’m happy you liked these photos. And yes, it’s a lovely place to live, even if nothing is within walking distance except nature itself.😁

Thank you Mr. Ohh! I’m glad it was alive, and he seemed quite proud of himself too. 🪲😅🙌
