Borneo has always held a special place in my heart. My husband and I travelled to Malaysia many times while running our own travel company, creating tailor-made journeys for our clients. We always visited every destination ourselves and worked closely with local partners, so our trips became much more than ordinary holidays.

In 2016, we bought and renovated an apartment in Kuching with plans to spend our winters there.
Those plans changed after our Basenji, Fanny, joined our family, and we sold the apartment in 2019.

Proboscis monkeys are found only in Borneo.
These proboscis monkeys were photographed on an morning trip along the Kinabatangan River in Sabah. Cruising along the riverbanks at sunrise is one of the best ways to observe Borneo’s incredible wildlife in its natural habitat.

The opening image is especially meaningful to me. My husband and I were walking along a trail in Bako National Park when we suddenly found ourselves almost face to face with a proboscis monkey. We were the only visitors to see one that day.

While preparing this post, I realised I’d completely forgotten that I’d already published a similar post three years ago.
This time, the story is different.

Sadly, many of my original photographs have disappeared over the years.
Fortunately, the ones that remain still bring back wonderful memories of an unforgettable place.
