While much of Europe was wrapped in winter, these roses were blooming in my garden here in Cyprus last January.
I only have two rose bushes, and they don’t bloom very often, so each flower feels like a small gift.
The oldest known cultivated rose gardens date back more than 5,000 years to ancient China, where roses were grown for both their beauty and their fragrance. Today, red roses remain one of the world’s most enduring symbols of love.
There is an endless amount to discover about roses. They have inspired poets, artists, gardeners and storytellers throughout history, and their beauty and symbolism continue to fascinate people around the world.
A rose has always been much more than just a flower.
Perhaps that’s why it has remained timeless.
