Butterfly Magnet

Salvia is more than just a colourful addition to my garden.
Its nectar-rich flowers are a magnet for bees, butterflies and other pollinators throughout the summer.

If butterflies could choose a favourite colour, I’d guess purple would be high on their list.
It’s certainly one of my favourite colours in nature too.

Large or small, butterflies seemed to agree on one thing—the purple salvia was well worth a visit.
Luckily for me, both visitors stayed just long enough for a few photographs.

This tiny visitor was much smaller than the first, but it proved that you don’t have to be big to catch the eye.

Thank you, Peter. The butterflies seemed especially fond of the salvia that day, and I was lucky to be there with my camera.

    Lovely photos Anita. 👍👍😊
I think the first is a Grayling of some sort. There are 2 likely candidates, a Southern Grayling or a Cyprus Grayling but I’m not sure which it is.
The second, I’d say, is a Small Copper.

Thank you, Mike. I didn’t name them in the post since I wasn’t certain, but I agree with you, the second one really does look like a Small Copper. 😊

Salvias are great plants. The flowers are always beautiful and a pollinator magnet. Excellent gallery!

Thank you, Egídio. Salvias seem to invite every little visitor in, bees, butterflies, all of them. And I really do love the colour of this plant. I’m glad you enjoyed the gallery.
